tic tock, art deco style
check out this fabulous art deco clock i scored on ebay! i love the red face and stylized numbers. it's my new studio clock now - tic tock, tic tock, september is almost here, it's time for change. even though i no longer have to live by the school year calendar, something about september always energizes me. it rests between summer and fall in a dreamy state of still nice weather, harvest moons and ripe produce.
perhaps september is magical because it is my birthday month, the start of my own personal new year. whatever the inspiration for the shift in energy, i am welcoming it with open arms.
daily greens
one of the built-in pleasures of life with a dog is the morning walk. while mia is savoring the smells along the sidewalk, i get to soak in things like this banana leaf, back lit by morning sunshine.
an ambitious squash plant is climbing up this 7-foot banana plant, reaching for the the sky. i was giddy over the the combo of glowing green and striking shadow shapes.
i can't get too much of this electric green, it's the color of the heart chakra, the pulse of life and it dazzles me every time. i've been working so hard this summer, i haven't done many "summer" activities, like going berry picking or to the farmer's market.
i remind myself that summer is right outside my door and this banana plant in the sun, one block down from my apartment, has been the portal to summer for me.
new stock
some wednesday morning eye candy. new pieces in the band ring collection. soon to be available in my twirl shop. sorry this is such a short post, i've got a busy day in the studio ahead of me!
stripped down to the essentials
as you can see, i spent some time this weekend doing a bit of a redesign on the blog. i'm pretty happy with it, though certain i will continue to tweek it here and there. this image was taken in greece and is one i keep returning to, over and over.
soon i will have some of my best photo images for sale as prints in the bread + butter shop.
high winds

today i am loving the work of painter catia chien, who lives and works in southern california. check out her website here. she does such a wonderful job of balancing fully rendered areas and quick, casual lines. it directs your eye and gives the piece dynamic energy. something i always aspire to as a painter, but struggle with often. her scenes and subjects are full of whimsy and wonder - absolutely delightful!
in the piece above, today i am feeling like that bird, flying high over the drudgery of the road and winging it to the castle. the wind is changing in my life, people. big exciting things in that wind.
details soon.
