fiber wizard: emily barletta

i've written about one of my favorite fiber artists before, brooklyn based emily barletta. i think i may have failed to mention she writes a great blog where you can check out her works in progress. and today, i just sit back in wonder as she unveiled a new, finished piece. this speaks to me about so many things, things that i've always loved. cells and creatures of the sea. layers under the crust of the earth and the swirls of debris left after a heavy storm. then there's that yummy mix of color! which makes me want to eat the art.
bravo, emily! readers, please do visit her blog here. then progress to falling in love with her portfolio here.
found and lost: leaf dress

ok, dear readers. i need your help. i love this piece, but cannot for the life of me get back to the site where i found it! the artist has ecaped me, vanished into the black hole of the internet. can anyone fill in the blanks?
three sisters
behold, a painting of mine from a few years ago. it's oil on birch panel and is titled three sisters. i've just recently retrieved some paintings from storage and it's really nice to see them again, like long-lost children.
my apologies for the light posting of late. i'm pretty tired and distracted because of this.
woolie wonders: hisano takei

behold the whimsical, woolie world of hisano takei. i've had this artist bookmarked for so long, i nearly forgot about her! perfect timing for my rediscovery, she's just added some wonderful new work to her online gallery - you simply must go see. i love felted wool as a medium, it's so versatile and fun to work with. although i know from personal experience, the making of it can be very labor-intensive (and wet!). the pieces by hisano takei manage to transcend the labor and communicate pure joy. this time of year, we all need a bit more joy, i am certain.
they look like what i imagine a collection designed by dr. suess might be. perhaps wedding jewelry for the lorax?

have fun diving into all the wonders of her collection here.
